EISfOM

Towards a European framework for organic market information

Proceedings from the EISfOM seminar "Towards a European framework for organic market information" are available at Organic Eprints. A printed copy may be ordered from the FiBL shop.

Based on the recommendations of the EISFOM project, the aim of the seminar was to define a framework for a European Information System for Organic Markets. The proceedings provide the papers presented, covering farm production, farm financial data, prices, consumers/consumption and supply balances/international trade.

Furthermore, a final EISfOM report on financial recommendations will be available on the EISfOM website in the next few days – enquiries to nhl@aber.ac.uk if it is missing.

Other publications of the EISfOM project area available at this EISfOM homepage and at the Organic Eprints archive: http://orgprints.org/view/projects/eu-eisfom.html

Organic Revision

Recommendations for the revision of the Council regulation on organic production

In responds to the conclusions of the European Action Plan for organic food and farming, the European Commission has adopted a proposal for a new Council regulation on organic production and labelling of organic products.

All though the aim of the new regulation is to improve clarity for both consumers and farmers, stakeholders have raised questions and expressed concerns on various issues of the proposed regulation.

The various issues will be thoroughly examined and discussed at theme 3 "What should be the rule?" of the Joint Organic Congress 2006, May 30-31 in Odense, Denmark.

The theme has thus turned out to be of immediate importance due to the ongoing discussion on the recent proposal for a council regulation on organic production and labelling of organic products. More..
